Rhea’s Story. Part 6.

“I did want to pass on the dance because my teacher Jamila told me that this was a tradition passed on from matriarchal times from mother to daughter. However, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. I tried to not to proselytize to my daughters or force them to dance or they might not have liked it. But it was all around us at all times. I had a lot of students around me all the time, and my daughters liked the girls that took the lessons. They took to it naturally and without prodding. Belly dance life was our culture.“

Excerpted from one of my mom’s essays on The Gilded Serpent (www.gildedserpent.com). Photo of me from Athens by Night taverna on Mnisikleos street. I’ve posted this before but I love how mom is looking at me so I post it again.

I am a happy horse. Mom led me to the water, I drank it, and it gave me a joyful life.

Posting on the full moon in Leo - I am using my trays of candles as moon altars these days!
