Rhea’s Story. Part 8.

Mom performing a late night show at a Greek taverna, 1980 ish. #bouzouki, baby!

Nikos Kazantzakis, Greek writer, journalist, poet, philosopher is one of Mom’s favorite writers. Philosophy has gotten her (—& me living an out of the box kind of chosen life) through many a trying times on a maverick path as adventuring belly dancers with lion hearts & wills of fire.

The first is mom’s favorite quote, from Report to Greco. Her choice is the third prayer. Her credo is always « better to die on my feet than live on my knees »

“There are three kinds of souls, three kinds of prayers. One: I am a bow in your hands, Lord. Draw me lest I rot. Two: Do not overdraw me, Lord. I shall break. Three: Overdraw me, and who cares if I break! »

“When everything goes wrong, what a joy to test your soul and see if it has endurance and courage! »

« True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own. »
